“Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when clinical care, family support, education, and emotional growth come together. That’s what effective adolescent treatment looks like—and it’s why integrated, whole-child care is essential.”

Frequently Asked Treatment Questions

How long is treatment?

Length of stay in our residential and IOP programs is individualized based on clinical need, safety, progress, and school/home factors. During this time, teens follow a personalized treatment plan that may include individual therapy, therapist-led groups, and family work—addressing mental health disorders, substance misuse (including alcohol or drug abuse), and co-occurring disorders within a coordinated treatment process.

Are programs gender-specific?

Yes—gender-specific and LGBTQ+-affirming care supports safety, focus, and belonging for young people in treatment.

Will my teen fall behind?

WASC-accredited academics and individualized learning plans help teens keep pace while in behavioral health treatment. We coordinate with schools so therapeutic gains—organization, time management, and coping skills—carry into the classroom.

Is this a wilderness program?

No, we do not provide Wilderness therapy, and our framework is very different. Muir Wood provides trauma-informed, evidence-based care in licensed residential and IOP settings—a clinical rehab program model that integrates therapy, family involvement, and academics. We never use coercive tactics and prioritize compassion, safety, and collaboration.

Do you coordinate with our provider?

Yes—continuity of care improves outcomes and eases the transition home. We collaborate with outside therapists and psychiatrists, share clinical updates (with consent), and facilitate referral pathways for ongoing outpatient treatment or step-up/step-down care as needed.

Is there a religious affiliation?

No, we are not affiliated with any religious movement or organization and operate on a secular basis. That being said, we endeavor to nurture and support whatever spiritual or religious practice is important to your teen and family members.

Do you accept insurance?

We work with most major insurers and will verify benefits for you. Our accredited adolescent treatment facilities strive to make high-quality rehab treatment and mental health treatment accessible.
