Experience
Maher S. Kozman, MD, FAPA, is a board-certified psychiatrist with specialization in general psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry. He has over 40 years of experience and expertise in treating complex co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders in youth.
In 1990, he joined Kaiser Permanente, an organization he has remained affiliated with for over three decades. He has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Loma Linda University and as a Clinical Associate Professor of Clinical Science at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine.
Education
Dr. Kozman completed his undergraduate and medical school education at Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. He continued his medical training when he moved to the United States, with a general psychiatry residency at the Boston VA Healthcare System (Brockton-West Roxbury) and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Brown University.

Dr. Kozman currently serves as a medical consultant for Muir Wood, where his guidance supports the organization’s mission of delivering exceptional, evidence-based treatment for teens. He consults on diagnostic clarity, treatment planning, and medication management, contributing to Muir Wood’s integrated, team-based approach. His perspective and decades of experience help reinforce the organization’s commitment to safety, effectiveness, and family-centered care.
He knew from early childhood that he wanted to be a doctor—feeling particularly called to psychiatry to address emotional pain and the complexities of the human mind. He approaches every young person he treats with the same level of care and respect he would want for his own children.
Personal Interests
Outside of work, Dr. Kozman leads a balanced and family-oriented life. He enjoys traveling with his wife and children, reading, hiking, sketching, and staying active through tennis and ping-pong.
