Teen Drug Rehab Through Trauma-Informed Care

Our teen drug treatment program in Fresno uses a holistic mental health-oriented approach that is about more than just kicking a habit, but addressing the underlying mental health and family issues that contribute to a systemic problem that kids and also adults self-medicate to treat, leading to addiction. We help adolescents and families heal from the effects of substance use. You’ll focus on rebuilding confidence, strengthening communication, restoring structure, and so much more—so you and your teen can thrive long after treatment ends.

We provide targeted care for teens struggling with:

Alcohol

Therapy helps teens identify triggers and learn healthier coping mechanisms to manage stress, pressure, and emotional pain.

Marijuana

We treat the impact of marijuana on focus, memory, and motivation, providing tools to reestablish direction and daily balance.

Stimulants

Care centers on regulating mood swings and improving impulse control, with structured routines that support emotional steadiness.

Opioids

Our clinicians guide teens through the recovery process safely and compassionately, addressing both physical dependence and emotional trauma.

Because substance use and mental health are deeply connected, every treatment plan includes co-occurring disorder support and family involvement for complete, lasting change.

You’ll have multiple touchpoints per week, join family therapy sessions, receive regular progress updates, attend parent classes, and learn communication and boundary-setting techniques to restore stability and trust at home.

When it’s time to transition, we coordinate care with outside providers to ensure your teen continues progressing in a supportive environment. Our 16-week parent coaching program and alumni network keep families engaged, educated, and connected long after treatment ends—because healing doesn’t happen in isolation.

Fresno Teen Residential FAQs

What Are the Benefits of Residential Treatment?

Residential treatment provides the time, safety, and structure your teen needs to make meaningful progress when outpatient services or weekly therapy aren’t enough. Living on campus with 24/7 supervision, teens receive individual therapy, academic support, and consistent daily routines that promote stability. Families stay involved through therapy, education, and ongoing communication from our clinical team—ensuring treatment progress continues at home.

What Qualifies a Teen for Residential Treatment?

Residential care is recommended when a teen’s emotional, behavioral, or substance abuse challenges have become too severe to manage safely at home. Warning signs may include sudden mood changes, self-harm, isolation, or escalating drug or alcohol use. Muir Wood’s Fresno drug rehab program provides comprehensive addiction treatment and mental health treatment for teens ages 12–17, including care for co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. Our treatment options are designed to address both the root causes of behavior and the impact on family relationships.

Is Residential Treatment the Same as Rehab?

While often referred to as “rehab”, our adolescent residential programs focus on evidence-based, developmentally tailored care rather than just detox or withdrawal management. At Muir Wood Fresno, teens receive trauma-informed psychiatric and therapeutic services such as CBT, DBT, and family systems therapy, delivered by licensed clinicians who specialize in treating youth. Our addiction treatment programs, as well as our mental health programming, also integrate academics and life skills training to help teens strengthen coping strategies and decision-making —skills that extend well beyond treatment.

How Long Is Residential Treatment for Teens?

Most teens stay at Muir Wood for 45–60 days, depending on their clinical needs. Some may benefit from up to 90 days of treatment depending on clinical progress and individual needs. During this time, teens engage in daily group and individual therapy, academic instruction, and supervised peer interaction. Before discharge, our team develops a continuing care plan that may include outpatient services, step-down to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), or connection to local support services for long-term recovery.

What If My Teen Hasn’t Used Substances—Can They Still Be Admitted?

Yes!. Muir Wood Fresno treats both primary mental health conditions (such as anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and ADHD) and dual diagnosis, including drug abuse involving alcohol, cannabis, stimulants, or opioids. When both are present, our integrated model ensures mental health and substance use are addressed together—not separately—so your teen receives coordinated, compassionate care.

What Are My Payment Options and How Much Does Residential Treatment Cost?

We’re in-network with most commercial insurers and can quickly verify benefits. Before admission, your coordinator will explain any deductibles, co-pays, or co-insurance. If we’re out-of-network, we can often pursue single-case agreements and provide documentation for reimbursement. While we do not currently accept Medicaid, our admissions team helps families understand all treatment options available to reduce financial stress and focus on healing.
