Monday Evening Check-In
This group is designed as a brief check in to review of the events of the weekend and to have an intention setting for the week. Teens have the opportunity to report on issues they see as obstacles in their recovery, check in with program staff about impediments to their success, and identify issues that may need exploration in individualized sessions or particular groups in the coming week. This group helps focus participants on weekly goals. It also allows them to have time to reflect on things in their recovery process that are going well.
Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention and Meditation
Utilizing various traditions of mindfulness teachings and meditation exercises, teens have direct education and practice in developing dedicated skills for issues such as emotional regulation, balancing moods and negative thoughts, self-soothing and relaxation. These groups also provide opportunities to explore some of the spiritual principles that are a core component of the 12 Step program in an open, and nondenominational way. Teens have the opportunity to develop their own understandings of concepts such as spirituality, Higher Power, and more.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Group
This group, based in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, teaches teens effective self-regulation and emotion tolerance. Combining self-assessment tools with self-soothing techniques and communication skills, this group helps teens learn how to resist being negatively influenced by their internal emotional state and provide intervention methods to stop harmful and negative behavior patterns.
Relapse Prevention Assignment Group
This group specifically emphasizes education and skill building of both the internal resources and external support structures necessary to establish lasting recovery. The primary focus of this group is completion of assignments from the Terence T. Gorski “Adolescent Relapse Prevention Workbook.” The Group completes and presents assignments that help identify the reasons for using substances, managing high-risk situations, thoughts, feelings, and identifying and understanding triggers to using substances. The workbook has 12 assignments that are done in every week of the outpatient program
This group serves to expose newcomers in recovery to some of the basic principles behind 12-step programming and the young-persons’ fellowship.
Utilizing the basic format of outside meetings, this group covers subjects such as specific exploration of some of the 12-Steps, practical application of recovery tools and principles, and the building of a sober support community. Young people in recovery will also occasionally be invited to join the group to share their experience, strength and hope in a Speaker Panel format like those in outside 12-Step meetings.
Multi-Family Process Group
This topic-driven group includes all program participants and family members together in a group discussion. Subjects such as challenges at home, communication and family recovery are addressed. This group provides a great opportunity for families to interact with one another, sharing their stressors as well as their successes with one another. Families have the opportunity to build their own network of recovery support among other families that may be struggling with similiar issues of addiction and recovery.
This group, led by various facilitators, targets how to manage healthy relationships with family members, manage peer relationships, healthy choices, issues and pressures at school, emotions, sober fun, handling boredom. This group also focuses on teens and their relationships with other people in their lives, be it family members, friends, or other people in the community at large. As the actions of others around us are out of our control, we monitor our perception of people and situations, and focus on what the correct actions to take may be in those relationships, such as forgiveness, empathy, compassion, or distancing oneself from unhealthy situations. This group is designed to help teens become more aware of themselves and how they relate to people around them, learning to pilot themselves through their feelings, so that they may continually relate to others in more fulfilling ways.
This group provides a safe setting for teens to take time and discuss the issues they are having without the fear of being judged or shamed. They’re able to ask for support and get feedback and reflect on their personal goals and progress. It is a structured setting allowing for insight and to develop new skills through peer support.
Weekend goals group

Everyone has the opportunity to report on issues they struggle with as obstacles in their recovery process, check in with program staff about issues of support that need attention, and identify issues that may need exploration in individualized sessions or particular groups in the coming weekend. This group serves to focus participants toward weekly goals, and allows them to have time to reflect on things in their recovery process that are going well.
Educational Lecture Series
This is a once a week lecture that is open to all individuals in treatment, their families, providers, and alumni. The Educational Lecture Series is facilitated by guest speakers on topical subjects sensitive to teens and their families.
