Residential Care at the Makena Campus
Most teens stay at Muir Wood for 45–60 days, with some benefiting from up to 90 days of treatment. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of highly credentialed clinicians. Programs are gender-separate to support safety and focus, while care remains individualized, inclusive, and affirming of each teen’s identity.
Throughout treatment, teens remain actively connected to their families through structured family therapy, while parents receive coaching, support, and ongoing collaboration with the care team—supporting continuity beyond discharge.
Daily life at Makena is designed to support healing beyond therapy sessions. Days include time outdoors, structured movement, and moments of reflection built into the schedule, while evenings unfold in quiet, home-like residences where teens can decompress and connect. This balance of structure and spaciousness helps teens feel grounded, supported, and more open to change.
That work is reinforced by a daily rhythm of care. Set in serene, nature-rich surroundings in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, teens spend their days engaged in therapy, academics, and structured outdoor activities that support regulation, resilience, and self-awareness. Evenings take place in home-like residences that allow space to decompress, reflect, and connect—so daily life itself becomes part of the therapeutic process.
My daughter is at the Petaluma Site. She has been there for about 40 days and the therapist has been very communicative. I feel apart of her treatment and have been updated weekly as well as a fast response anytime I have had questions. The support has been great and I love the parent classes. I have learned a lot in this time.

The Makena campus is intentionally designed to support the clinical work of healing and stabilization. Located in Clovis and set among rolling hills and open land, the campus offers wide-open views, natural light, and a sense of physical openness that many teens have not experienced in months—or years. Quiet outdoor spaces, thoughtfully designed common areas, and room to move allow teens to step away from constant stimulation and reconnect with their bodies, emotions, and sense of self.
The setting is an active part of our clinical philosophy. Natural surroundings, access to daily outdoor movement, and calm, light-filled spaces support emotional regulation and focus—helping teens settle more quickly into treatment and engage more fully in therapeutic work.
