Krista Mackinnon has specialized in mental health recovery education, curriculum development, group facilitation and community organizing since 2003. Her work is informed by her own lived experience of recovery from a childhood diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and from having family members in recovery. She created one of the first ever online family mental health recovery education programs, which has been utilized by over 1000 families across five continents, and has been contracted with agencies in Canada, Australia and the US. In Canada, she earned a diploma in social service work, and holds post graduate certificates in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, solution-focused counselling, wellness and recovery action planning, psychosocial rehabilitation, and teaching yoga from a therapeutic perspective. She is deeply fascinated by the intersection of wisdom traditions, personal/family transformation, and the healing power of connected online communities. She is inspired by Muir Wood’s strengths-based individualized approach to treatment. She is pleased to have the opportunity to support Muir Wood families and to provide outreach and education to the community. Krista is a Canadian expatriate to both Costa Rica and the United States, and is a proud mother of three wonderful kids.
